There is a hidden hour after midnight that most of the world remains unaware of, known as the Dark Hour. The sky glows an eerie green, the streets painted with blood. Living creatures as a general rule are transmogrified into what appear to be crystallized coffins, frozen in time, safe in their temporary slumber.
But there are those who have something known as the Potential, where they will at some point find themselves experiencing the Dark Hour first hand. Some go mad from what they see; others are struck with inspiration. Whatever the case, however, those with the Potential rarely last for long on their own in this eerily silent realm, thanks to creatures known simply as Shadows- beings that feed on the unsuspecting victims.
However, there are a rare few with the Potential who also have the ability to protect themselves from the onslaught of Shadows that will inevitably be drawn to their living energy: the capability of summoning a being from deep within their souls, known simply as Persona. These few are often sought out by others with the same gifts, and frequently band together to fight against the Shadows during the Dark Hour… both for their own immediate safety, and for the safety and sanity of others.
People can realize their Potential at any age, at any point in time; how they reach this stage is generally unknown. Therefore, beings from all walks of life can be found throughout the world, roaming the streets during the Dark Hour.
But lately, the number of people with the Potential- and subsequently, the amount of people summoning Persona- have been dropping at an alarming rate. In Port Island, Japan, one group simply known as The Illuminati have taken note of this drastic drop in numbers… as well as the fact that people with already established Personas have been falling ill, and alarmingly apathetic.
The mission is clear to any member of the Illuminati, as well as to any other who holds a Persona in their soul: fight the Shadows, keep yourself and your loved ones safe, and discover as many clues as possible to figure out why so many people with the Potential have been developing Apathy Syndrome.
